The Southeast Florida Chapter took part in the A&WMA Web Conference on Ethics and the Environment on November 15, 2006. The web conference was conducted at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida which lies adjacent to the border of Palm Beach and Broward Counties. Although the conference participation was low, the presentation was well received by those attending.
The Chapter activity for January 30, 2007 will also be a web conference. The subject for this one is Title V Permits, Periodic Monitoring to CAM. We anticipate a very good turnout for this conference and have scheduled it in Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and Broward Counties.
The Chapter is partnering with the Pollution Prevention Coalition of Palm Beach County to hold a day long Green Building Workshop on March 7, 2007. The workshop will be held at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton in one of the large classrooms. Based on participation at a similar workshop in Miami late last year, we anticipate exceeding 100 participants for this event. Most of the 12 speakers are confirmed with representatives from companies representing many of the fields involved in green buildings. We have also confirmed a reception and tour following the workshop in the adjacent Nursing School which is a LEED Certified Green Building. An announcement should go out in the next week as the remaining logistics are being confirmed.
Since the Chapter will be hosting the Florida Section Conference this year, the Board has been meeting routinely to plan the conference. The first order of business was to locate the site for the conference. We have now confirmed the Embassy Suites Hotel in Deerfield Beach as the site for the conference on October 28-30, 2007. We still have a few open spots in the conference committee if anyone is interested in helping out.
